Impromptu Date Night

So Brian's work schedule is different from most. He works 4 10hr days and has two days during the week off plus one weekend day which means our "weekends" are usually Wednesdays and Thursdays. I don't really mind the schedule since I'm not working right now anyway. It lets us do random errands on days when there aren't crowds of people everywhere and allows for unexpected date nights during the week. Tonight we trekked down to San Diego where we left baby girl with my parents and headed to Petco Park. The Padres and Phillies were in action and Brian splurged on fantastic seats for us!

(check out those condos...they can literally watch a game from their balcony!)

We were almost sitting on the field and it felt like we were part of the action. Brian was ready to jump out there and lend a hand if they needed it! He had to settle for trying to catch foul balls instead :) Here are a few pictures before the game started (on the old camera since it fit in my Brian's pocket):

 (requisite self portrait)

(the fans trying to get autographs...they were literally standing on my feet...that's how close these seats were!)

 (Phillies' pitcher Roy Oswalt)

(Umm think this is just a picture to show how close the field is not to show of Maybin's butt)

It was a good game even though the Padres lost. Late night but fun...kinda reminded me of our younger days when we could stay out late and not have to down a 5hr energy for the drive home :) Oh and for those who noticed, yes I got a bang trim and I wear them like that for the first day or two until they grow out to the perfect length! Yes, I look like I'm 10 but it's all good.

Another Creative Outlet

Those of you who have been reading this crazy blog for a while know that I like doing projects that allow me to be somewhat creative, whether it's home decor or sewing or DIY projects. Well, I recently added yet another crafty/projecty task to my repertoire. Thanks to my friend Mandy, I have started a scrapbook for baby girl.

Uh oh.

I've always been intrigued by the scrapbooking world but never wanted to be a part of it because I know that it can be expensive and addicting and time consuming! I always steered clear of those aisles in Joann's that had all the little decals and stickers and paper because I knew once I peeked inside, I would be sucked in!

Then it happened.

Mandy (who is absolutely obsessed crazy about in love with paper supplies and crafts) started a scrapbook for Jack and I thought it was so cute and something Anayah would love to have (sure mom, whatever you say) one day. So I thought maybe I would put together a small one just documenting the big events of her first year, and that's it. We were at Joann's one day and I found this small book and these two packets of decals. Mandy has a TON of other scrapbooking supplies so she said I could use whatever she had and didn't need to buy anything else. Pretty cool, I thought, and not so expensive. I can totally do this.

Ha! Once I started going through all the supplies Mandy had and got to see all the fun paper and stickers and decals, I could feel myself getting sucked in. I ignored the tiny voice in my head that was screaming "retreat, retreat!" and continued to pick out stuff I thought was cute and would look good in A's future scrapbook. After a few minutes, I had hoarded saved this pile of stuff for the scrapbook I had yet to start.

Hmm, that small scrapbook I bought doesn't seem like it will be big enough for all this fun stuff! I think I might have to buy a bigger one. And apparently I needed a few more packs of "stuff" to fill this bigger book.

Yikes, I think I've officially crossed over to the dark side. Someone pull me back.

Busy Weekend

This weekend we were on the go!

On Saturday we made a trip in Orange County to meet up with Erika for lunch and some shopping and to just hang out. On the way there we made a stop for mommy to get her bangs trimmed, and on the way back stopped at Trader Joe's to stock up on some produce for baby food. Sorry for the crappy camera phone pic.

hey mom, this is SO much better than my carseat!

On Sunday we got up super early to go see daddy in action. When I say early, we were out of the house by 7am. Yes, you read that right. I'll let your imagination decide what time we had to get up to be out of the house by that time :)

Grandma Chris came over for a visit later, and we had some friends over to watch the Super Bowl. Anayah couldn't have any of the snacks which she was rather upset about so I gave her a frozen chunk of mango in her mesh feeder. She was in heaven.
This snack is SO much better than yours

It was a great weekend, just tiring. We spent today being lazy recuperating and just laying low.

Down And Out

We'be been thick.
Just laying low, watching tv (gasp!) and trying to rest.

(swaddled with Vicks, inclined, watching sesame street...totally content. uh oh)

Baby girl has started to recover but I probably won't be fully functioning for a couple more days.
We'll be back soon.

Way To Go, Mom

I'm a horrible mom.

Let me set the scene for you: a hallway, a doorway, an infant that likes to see what's going on EVERYWHERE.

Here's how it went down: I was at my parents' house, walking down the hallway toward the kitchen. As I passed the laundry room, miss Anayah threw herself back just as I passed the door frame. Why? No clue. Maybe she wanted to see the washer and dryer. Who knows really.

Not sure if the bump on the head or the loud gasp I emitted scared her more. Poor baby had a bump and a red mark for a few hours.

Horrible mommy.

Don't call CPS.

She was back to her normal self in no time at all. Even with an injury, tummy time is a must.

Mini Break

Just a quick note to say that I'm taking a small break from blogging for a little bit. I'm sure you won't miss me but for those who do, I'll be back soon. Promise. Until then, enjoy your holiday season!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Week In Review

Yikes, it's been almost a week since I've been on here! We've been busy just hanging out as a family and spending time with baby girl. Here's what we've been up to...I'll let Anayah tell you all about it.

Excuse me, little girl...

Yes, how may I help you?

What have you been up to lately?

I spent time with my great grandma

Mommy took me flying in my living room

They put me in my carseat...again...but at least I was with Sophie.

Then they stuffed me in this sweater on Thanksgiving. Good times.

Anayah got to see lots of friends and family this week, most of whom she had never met. Her sleep schedule was completely abandoned and she was in the car a ton more than she has ever been but she was a trooper! She was social and happy and didn't fuss too much. We were so happy that she adjusted well and was able to finally meet the rest of the family! Needless to say she was the center of attention...which she loved!

Week In Review

We've been pretty busy over here this week so the blog posts have suffered and the projects have been sidelined...oh well, it was worth it. I'll get back to it next week...just in time to take another break for Thanksgiving! :) Here's what we've been up to...

Cheering loudly for daddy's baseball team during playoffs...
Nice hit, daddy!

Hanging out with mommy while she made dinner...

Cooking is just SO fun!

Munching on Sophie's face and pretending to be eating dinner with the grown folk...

 Mmm, tastes like chicken

Relaxing in my bath...
Where are my bubbles?

Teething...

Teething isn't bad enough? You need a picture?!

Falling asleep on the way home from San Diego to see great grandma who is visiting from Hawaii...

I think Sophie is her new best friend

We'll be back after we recover from this week. Happy Weekend!

Just Chillin'

Doesn't she look so much older in this picture?

Just lounging on the couch, wondering why you're bothering me by taking my picture!

Yikes, she's growing up so fast!

So Ridiculous

Remember in this post I told you about how Bri and I have been working out? Well we usually don't get started until after baby girl is in bed which means somewhere around 8:30ish. When we're done, we're both so sweaty that going to bed without taking a shower would not only be disgusting but just wrong.

Well, we just recently transitioned Anayah from sleeping in her bassinet to her pack and play (in our bedroom). I can't bring myself to put her in her own room yet. Even though our bedrooms are thisclose together, I feel better with her in our room.

Ok, back to the point.

Since we have to take a shower before bed these days, and she's in our bedroom, and our bathroom is open, and we don't want the noise to wake her up, we would normally just move her little bassinet outside the bedroom into the hallway while we took a shower and got ready for bed. Simple solution.

Not so much anymore.

This is how the conversation went...

M: So what are we going to do about taking a shower now that she's in her pack and play?
B: We can take a shower in one of the other bathrooms.
M: That means we have to move all our toiletries there then bring them all back.
B: Then let's just take a shower, she might not wake up.
M: No, not going to take that chance.
B: We can move the pack and play.
M: Seriously? It's kinda big. We should have just left her in her basinette.
B: The pack and play has wheels by the way, we'll just roll it.

That's how we found ourselves in this situation...

Yes, she is sleeping in her pack and play in the hallway outside our bedroom. Yes, that is her bedroom you see in the photo. Yes, she has a crib in her bedroom. Yes, we do this every night. So ridiculous, I know.

If I Were A Boy

If I were a boy, would I wear dress?

If I were a boy, would I have a pink blanket?

If I were a boy, would my mommy tell me I'm a pretty girl? (in front of other people)

I sure hope not.

For the lady that asked how old my "little boy" was, maybe this will help...
Just to avoid any further confusion.

It's Been A While

I know, I know. It's been waaaayyy too long since I last posted. Time just flies by during the day and before I know it, it's time for bed. Can you really blame me for choosing sleep over blogging?!

So what's been happening over here? Nothing too exciting. Baby girl had her two month check up last week and she weighed just shy of 10lbs...I'm sure she's passed that mark by now. We've had a few play dates with Monster B and Sweet & Spicy, our buddy Jack, and have just been enjoying our days and the new experiences that come along with it. Here's a peek at what we've been up to:

Exercising...lifting some weights to be precise

Dancing (next to her favorite pillow)

Getting used to the cloth diaper journey

Bathing...she had so much fun she just passed out afterward

Speaking of bath, aren't her curls just so lovely? Most of the time her hair is straight like mine. Not sure if it will eventually change, but for now we only get to see them when her hair gets wet.

Hope everyone is doing well. I'll try to get back on the blogging train again soon...at least part time at least. Not promising daily updates but a week and a half since my last post is just wrong. Until then...

Date Night

So we had our first "solo" night since baby girl's arrival. We went to Brian's brother's wedding and left Anayah at home with my parents. It was a bit hard to leave her for so long and kind of weird not having her with us but we survived and actually had a good time. It was a nice reminder of what life was like pre-baby. We got to focus on just us for a minute and recharge as a couple.

Baby girl was completely fine and happy to be with grandma and grandpa...doubt she missed us. Perhaps we will have to make a habit of going out at least once a month. We'll see...it's hard to leave this munchkin for even a few hours!

The happy bride and groom...Congratulations you two!!

Finding Our Rhythm

I can't believe it's been over a week since I last posted! Time goes by so quickly these days that I don't even notice! Not sure if that's a good or bad thing just yet...

Now that baby girl is past the six week mark, we've noticed some big changes. She is definitely becoming more social, smiling at us (and random objects), "talking" to us, being more alert, and getting stronger. With this new found social-ness comes adjustments in her sleep patterns as well. I feel like she fights sleep just so she can hang out with us! She is still such a great sleeper at night but her daytime naps are starting to become fewer and fewer. On the plus side, they are longer than before so I suppose it kind of evens out. I know it's kind of early to be setting up routines, but I have been trying to get her on a pseudo-schedule for the past week or two. I think we're slowing getting into a good groove which makes the day go by much smoother. We'll see how long it lasts!

Here are a few of her more recent pictures...can't believe how big she is getting!!

Doesn't she look like she's ready to punch you in the face in the last one?! Haha, she cracks me up! She has SUCH a personality already!!

Just The Girls

So B had to go back to work today (insert sad face and slightly panicked voice).

She's not happy either that daddy had to go to work...
I was definitely NOT ready to be "by myself" with baby girl but I had no choice. Not that B has so much more parenting experience or that he knows so much more about babies. It's just having someone else there, someone to help change the diapers or watch her so I can take a nap or to offer moral support when I think I'm failing as a parent. Just having a partner in all of this makes it feel less scary, makes it more manageable. Hats off to all those single parents out there-I don't know how you do it!

Anyway, enough drama I suppose. For our first day "alone" baby girl and I decided not to stay in and watch TV or work on her nursery or even rest. Nope, we decided to spend the day with my good friend Mandy and baby Jack (born just 8 hours ahead of Anayah...at the same hospital...with the same doctor!). Not only were we going out of the house on our own, we were going to run a few errands (Babies R Us and Target). Umm, hello, you wouldn't even take the baby into the store because she was "too new" so you made Bri wait in the car with her. About halfway through getting ready, I stopped and reassessed the situation. Can I handle this? We're going out in public...by ourselves...at three weeks old. Am I crazy?! I felt a little better knowing I was going with a friend who was in the exact same situation. Hey if she can do it, so can I. Right?!

A pretty dress for her day out...
I finished packing up the bag, got her in the car, and set off. We actually made it through the day pretty smoothly and took a much needed nap as soon as we got home. Several things I learned today:
  • My daughter does NOT like to be strapped into her car seat. She goes in it fine and will sit in it nicely, but if those straps are tightened, we better be moving...or else.
  • I need a mirror on the headrest so I can see her while driving in order to alleviate any panic attacks that arise when I can't hear her breathing. (The ONE time I wish she were crying...at least I can hear her!)
  • Find out if a store has a "family restroom" or nursing room before leaving the store that DOES have it.
  • If you leave the blanket off the carrier or slightly open, people WILL comment. Good thing they were all positive ones, eh?
  • Eating a sandwich with mustard while walking around the store will result in dripping on the car seat and cause you to wonder if your child had an explosive poop...you will breathe a sigh of relief when you realize it was just your clumsy self.
  • Putting the car seat into the stroller as opposed to the shopping cart results in you buying WAY less!
What she usually looks like once you strap her in...

      Throwing In The Towel

Duuuuuude. Breastfeeding is not a joke.

      You've got that right, mom

Yesterday was horrible. The day before, fantastic. Today I feel like giving up. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. It's a constant challenge.

      Just feed me already!

I guess I need to man up though right?! It's not so much physically annoying (like soreness or being swollen), it's more of my inability to keep my child awake while she is feeding. She latches on great then it's a countdown to sleepy time. 3 minutes in and she's out. Ugh. Are you kidding me child?! We've tried everything short of having a parade in the room to keep her awake. We've read the books and suggestions that the "experts" give. Nothing seems to be working.

Two minutes into her feeding session...down for the count

Enter Danielle. She is a friend from my college days and is a Lactation Consultant or Specialist perhaps (among many other titles) at Mission Hospital. She offered her services to me when I was pregnant and I decided it was time to cash in. Someone who knows anything about this whole new world was welcomed with open arms.

Things got personal. Definitely need to be comfortable letting it all hang out. At this point, if it's going to help, I don't care. Do whatever you want with those hands. After two sessions, I think we've got a handle on it all. My breasts are thankful.

      Life is goooooood
I think little miss would agree.
