Seven Months

It seems no matter how hard I try to stop you from growing up, you just keep on going. Most days I'm in denial that you are already 7 months old! The time is just flying by and before we know it, we will be celebrating your first birthday (guess I better get to that party planning!).

In this last month we've probably seen the biggest changes in your growth. You've started scooting around pretty quickly, especially if you spy something you're not allowed to have. You have finally started to bounce in your activity gym and you can now sit on your own without falling over every few seconds. I've started calling you "wild child" because you are constantly on the go! You must be doing something every second you are awake. You are still our champion eater; in fact, you out-eat your buddy Jack! You've also become quite the snackaholic...you love your puffs and yogurt melts! It's so cute to see you pinch them between your tiny fingers and shove them in your mouth!

You continue to nap for 30 minutes during the day BUT sleep 12+ hours at night...so I really can't complain! You're on a pretty good schedule, eating 5 times a day and napping 3-4 times. Your toy basket has started to overflow and you have almost taken over the whole house :) but we wouldn't have it any other way. We continue to use basic sign language with you and are anxiously waiting to hear your first words. You don't have any teeth yet but we're thinking they'll be making their debut soon...the drooling and gnawing on ev.er.y.thing. might be slight indicators.

You are still so petite, wearing anything from 0-6 month clothing depending on the brand. Your shoes (when you let us put them on) are only size 1s...the closet full of shoes you have are just waiting until you fit into them! Come on already! :) Thank you for continuing to bring such happiness and sunshine into our lives. We continually thank God for you and are so excited for what's ahead. We love you baby girl!

How To Dye Fabric

I have gotten a few questions on how to dye onesies (or any other fabric of your choosing) so I thought I'd put together a little tutorial. Please note, I am NO expert nor do I promise your results will be perfect. This is just what has worked for me. Ok, disclaimer over, let's get started:

DYES:
Decide what kind of dye/color you want. There are many different types but I tend to use RIT or Dylon. RIT tends to be easier to find but some find Dylon easier to use...to me there's no difference. RIT comes in liquid or powder form, Dylon is powder. Pick one of each and experiment then decide for yourself which one you prefer. Anyway, just pick one.

FABRIC:
Now your fabric. I dye mostly onesies, child's sized t-shirts and burp cloths. One packet of dye is good for 1 lb. of fabric but I have NO idea what that means so here's how I gauge it. One packet of dye is good for a maximum of three onesies OR a t-shirt and a onesie OR two burp cloths OR two onesies and a burp cloth OR a t-shirt and a burp cloth. If you're feeling up to it, go ahead and weigh a lb. of fabric and go with that.

At this point you can follow the directions on the box/packet and you'll be fine or you can keep reading to see how I do it. Oh, you're still reading which means you really want to know my process. Well, alrighty then.

PROCESS:
1. Get a bucket or use your sink (but know that the dye might stain) oh and some gloves are helpful.

2. Use HOT water (the hotter the better) to dissolve 4tbsp of salt and your packet of dye. I use some old tongs to stir the water just fyi.
3. Add more hot water to your bucket until it's about 1/2 to 3/4 full.
4. Rinse your fabric before putting it in your dye.
5. Here's the most crucial step: AGITATE your fabric (with the tongs or your gloved hands) for at least 15 minutes. Yes, this is not fun, but it will keep your fabric from being splotchy in the end.

6. Once properly agitated, you can leave your fabric in the dye bath for at least 30 minutes longer, stirring occasionally. I've forgotten about it for a couple of hours before and it was fine. The first 15 minutes are the most important.
7. Drain the bucket and rinse your fabric out in hot water until it runs (almost) clear. Then rinse the fabric in cold water.

8. Wash with like colors in hot at least once before adding any appliques. Once I add an applique I usually wash in cold a few more times with similar colors before mixing it in with the rest of baby girl's clothes.

Yes, it seems like a lot of information, but it really is an easy process. Once you do it a few times, you'll figure out what works best for you. It's not as time consuming as you might think...remember the first 15 minutes of agitating are the most crucial. Also, I always try to dye on days I need to do laundry...to avoid having to do extra random loads to wash what I've dyed. Ok, long post but hopefully it's helpful. Have fun!

Instead of playing with all the toys, she wanted to help measure and sew...

(junky cell phone pic...again.)

Have a great weekend! In spite of the rain.

Just A Matter Of Time

Our days are numbered.

video

She needed a little bit of incentive but she's definitely getting more comfortable on all fours. I haven't really been "practicing" with her like I should be because I don't think I'm ready for her to be mobile just yet. Bri definitely makes her practice though and from the looks of it, she's almost ready, even if I'm not.

Sniff.

You Crack Me Up

So I honestly think my child is hilarious. Her facial expressions, her sounds, her reactions to certain things, etc. I know most of it is unintentional at this point but she is still funny nonetheless. Just wanted to share a few things that cracked us up recently:

First of all, you must know that she hates anything on her feet. I feel her pain. I pretty much live in flip flops year round and sleep with my feet sticking out from under the duvet. Anyway, as soon as I put her sandals on, this is what happened:

Gotta get these things off my feet!

One down, one to go!

Can you see how vigorously she is kicking in order to get those things off?! She's gonna be fast!

Secondly, you must know that she loves watching any sports as well as her DVD series that grandma bought her. This is how she was sitting when I came downstairs the other morning:

Just chillin' while she watched TV with daddy.

Last but not least, you need to know that she is VERY nosy. She wants to know what is going on at all times. I can't decide if this one is funny or scary to me:

Hey mom, can I have a piece of mango?

I know it's a matter of time before she is doing this on an hourly basis. Do they even sell door locks for bottom freezers?? I sure hope so!

My One Valentine's Project

If you remember this post, you know how I feel about decorating for any other holiday other than Christmas. Well, blog land has been FLOODED with all kinds of fun crafts and projects for Valentine's Day and I almost decided to jump on that band wagon. But then I woke up and realized that A) I don't have the time during the day to do any type of project thanks to my 30 minute special, B) I don't have the funds to be throwing away on frivolous holidays, C) By the time I decided to attempt a project, it was almost time to take it all down. Pointless.

I did however decide that baby girl needed something a little festive so I whipped something up for her to wear.

Yes, for those who have noticed, she has been wearing quite a few headbands lately. Partly because I have become obsessed excited about making so many different ones and partly because she has no a lot less hair these days and needs something to keep her head warm and cute! ;)

No laughing. It WILL grow back.

Busy Weekend

This weekend we were on the go!

On Saturday we made a trip in Orange County to meet up with Erika for lunch and some shopping and to just hang out. On the way there we made a stop for mommy to get her bangs trimmed, and on the way back stopped at Trader Joe's to stock up on some produce for baby food. Sorry for the crappy camera phone pic.

hey mom, this is SO much better than my carseat!

On Sunday we got up super early to go see daddy in action. When I say early, we were out of the house by 7am. Yes, you read that right. I'll let your imagination decide what time we had to get up to be out of the house by that time :)

Grandma Chris came over for a visit later, and we had some friends over to watch the Super Bowl. Anayah couldn't have any of the snacks which she was rather upset about so I gave her a frozen chunk of mango in her mesh feeder. She was in heaven.
This snack is SO much better than yours

It was a great weekend, just tiring. We spent today being lazy recuperating and just laying low.
